Report: Police Arrest METALLICA/GODSMACK T-Shirt Counterfeiters
April 1, 2004The Casper Star Tribune is reporting that Casper, Wyoming police arrested three out-of-towners for selling counterfeit METALLICA-GODSMACK T-shirts outside local hotels and restaurants Tuesday night (March 30).
One of the men, 42-year-old Stephen Williams, was busted after he approached an off-duty police officer outside the Poor Boys restaurant and allegedly tried to sell the officer a shirt for $20, the report said.
Uniformed officers were called to the restaurant and Williams was arrested for soliciting without a license. Williams' driver, 30-year-old Lou Black, who pulled up to the restaurant in a vehicle with Utah plates, was also arrested on the same charge, according to the Casper Star Tribune.
A third man, 35-year-old Brenden Alan Schiff, of California, was also arrested about two hours later when he was caught selling the shirts in the parking lot of the Casper Events Center, the report said.
Sgt. Larry Baker said he believed all three men were from California and that they were following the tour selling the shirts for as little as $10.
Baker said the bands' promoters or federal authorities could decide to upgrade the charges against the three men to a federal level.
